Sewtec has won the exporter of the year category at the prestigious Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards.

Yorkshire finest excellent in business awards 2018

Managing director Mark Cook was presented with the award at a ceremony held at The National Railway Museum in York attended by more than 300 of the region’s business leaders.

Winning this award pays credit to the hard work we put into designing and manufacturing factory automation systems. The fact that more than 85 per cent of our sales are exports across the food, pharmaceutical, personal care and tobacco industries speaks for itself in what we have achieved.

With clients including Nestlé, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble, Sewtec has strong and growing sales in 17 markets across all six continents including the USA, Brazil, China, Germany, Russia and Australia.

Commenting on the awards win, Mark Cook said: “This award recognises the outstanding contribution everyone at Sewtec makes to the success of the business in international markets.

“We provide bespoke automated systems for leading manufacturers worldwide and the appetite for our highly effective approach in existing and new territories is continuing to grow. This award is excellent third-party endorsement of Sewtec’s continued success and we look forward to the future with confidence.”

In April, we announced our intention to double turnover to £32m in five years, leading to the creation of an additional 80 highly skilled jobs across its mechanical design, software, engineering and sales functions.

In August, we opened a new mechanical and software engineering design office in Wakefield and also revealed we had secured a record £25m order book.

The order book announcement was just 12 months on from a management buyout (MBO) backed by Leeds-headquartered private equity firm Endless. Since the MBO, Sewtec has undergone a period of transformational change and is currently implementing a recruitment campaign to enable further sustainable, profitable growth.
