A company-wide charity raffle held recently successfully raised the funds, which were split equally between Star Bereavement Support Service and Community Awareness Programme.

The event saw our 130 employees and their family and friends enter to win prizes donated by our local network.

Star Bereavement Support Service provides care and support to children and young people in Wakefield, giving them help to rebuild their lives when someone close to them passes away.

Community Awareness Programme’s aim is to help relieve the suffering caused by poverty in the area, whilst raising awareness of the needy in the community.

Zena Chapman, trustee at Star Bereavement Support Service, said: “I’d like to thank the entire team from Sewtec for the fabulous donation. This contribution will enable us to provide thirty additional support sessions to children who are grieving the loss of someone close to them.”

Sewtec has an extensive community engagement programme in Wakefield, which sees us closely involved in charitable and educational activities with local projects, schools and colleges. We also have eight apprentices from the area, three of whom were recruited this year.

Kevin Dobson, Community Awareness Programme project manager, said: “We’re really grateful for Sewtec’s generous donation. A charity like ours relies on fundraising and volunteering from companies and individuals to continue the work we do. On behalf of everyone at Community Awareness Programme, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Sewtec for supporting our cause.”

Sewtec director of business support, Mark Atkins, said: “Community involvement is vitally important to us all at Sewtec. The work that these two charities do in the Wakefield region benefits so many people.

“The organisations provide care, advice and so much more at times that support is crucial to those receiving it. I’m proud that through our fundraising efforts we’ve been able to help them continue to work with those that need it the most.”

We recently announced plans to relocate from our current location in Dewsbury to a 75,000 sq ft facility at Silkwood Park in Wakefield by March 2020, creating more than 70 new jobs in the next three years. We already have a design office at Silkwood Park.
