FILLED: Purchasing manager

As part of our ongoing growth strategy, Sewtec is seeking a purchasing manager in Yorkshire to join our bespoke automation solutions company.

Working with our team of purchasers, your responsibilities will include undertaking supplier assessments, selection and management; price negotiation and expectations; and setting objectives and developing the buying team.

Managing the company’s day-to-day buying activities and ensuring that all buyers are meeting their objectives will be high on your daily to-do list. You’ll work to analyse the buying systems we currently use and create the best methods to improve our day-to-day operations – this will cover improving supplier and internal stakeholder relationships, lowering the cost of outsourcing using a mixture of low-cost suppliers and actively managing existing suppliers.

As our purchasing manager, you’ll be tasked with designing, planning and implementing procurement strategies, as well as searching potential new suppliers and vendors. Being in constant contact with suppliers, manufacturers and internal departments will be a key part of the purchasing role, as will negotiating lower pricing and managing the performance of our suppliers.

The ideal candidate for the position will have previous working experience in purchase management within a fast paced, complex precision engineering company covering machining, turning and fabrication. We need a purchasing manager who possesses outstanding cost estimation capabilities for new parts and has experience of conducting supplier approval and audits, as well as in budgeting and purchasing management.

You’ll be a problem solver with a strong analytical mindset, an outstanding negotiator and have high levels of organisational and time management skills. Working on bespoke automation solutions means no two days are the same, so you’ll be a purchasing manager who has great attention to detail, can work well as a team or on their own and is not afraid to be proactive.

Having previous buying experience is essential for this role, and we’re looking for a purchasing manager who has been educated to a degree level with CIPS.
