A day in the life – Liam Wardle

Whether you’ve been working for six months or 20 years, we want all our team to show ambition, determination and a strong work ethic – it’s on these traits Sewtec prides itself. With these, we can create the best possible automation solutions for our clients.

The latest in our DITL series, we caught up with service and support engineer Liam Wardle to find out what he thought about working at Sewtec and where he aspires for his career to go.

Q: Tell us about your typical working day

Liam Wardle (LW): My typical working day begins with looking through my emails and highlighting any urgent matters that need tending to, before having a brief meeting with my line manager James for any jobs that need particular focus. Then I can clearly set out my priorities for the day.

Q: What made you choose a career in automation?

LW: Automation has interested me for many years and, as I have a passion for being involved in the manufacture of precision components, seeing these components work seamlessly alongside the robotic side of the machine makes it worthwhile.

Q: What would you say the best thing about working at Sewtec is?

LW: I would say the best thing about working at Sewtec is the general work ethic of the other employees. I always find people are happy to help me out if I have ever needed it and the senior management team make time to guide me if I need it.

Q: Name three characteristics you would say are needed to work in automation

LW: Having determination, being technically minded and able to make independent decisions on the spot are three characteristics I’d say are important for a career in automation.

Q: What’s been your proudest moment whilst working at Sewtec?

LW: After a phone call from one of our largest customers, they urgently required parts on site. I managed to quote the parts, prioritise them through production, get them prepared for shipping, creating the necessary paperwork and get them out of the door the same day for which the customer was very grateful.

Q: Do you feel inspired by working as part of an award-winning team?

LW: I do. The feeling I get is that everyone wants to help get the job done which is a massive plus for me.

Q: How have you developed your skills whilst working at Sewtec?

LW: I am continuously developing and refining my skills while at Sewtec, but I would say my estimating skills have come on a long way over the past six months.

Q: What aspirations do you have for your career at Sewtec moving forward?

LW: I aspire to be part of the management team in the next two years as I would love the opportunity to guide and mentor colleagues in the sector I have built my career in.
